What is Different About SKS Courses?
Most courses in the industry today fall into two categories: lecture or correspondence.
Lecture-based courses are often one-way affairs, with an instructor presenting information in the on-site or online environment with very little student interaction. Correspondence-type courses, on the other hand, offer little more than readings, videos, and comprehension tests.
Both fall prey to what Brazilian Educator Paulo Freire calls the “banking concept of education” where knowledge is “poured” into the heads of students, which they must then regurgitate as facts.
SKS courses are not like this.
We begin with the idea that learning is interactive. We take a participant-centered, expert-level approach focused on critical thinking. We leverage the vast experience across workshop participants and facilitators, while encouraging students to actively engage and learn. This approach allows each student to tailor the workshop for his own learning needs, demonstrates the power of collaboration and collaborative problem solving, improves retention, and encourages future networking.
